Took a bronze casting class and spent nearly the whole semester on this piece. The sculpture started in modeling clay, using acrylic marbles for the spheres. I then made a silicone rtv mold and poured a wax cast. After setting up the air vent system in wax for the bronze to travel it was dipped into a ceramic mixture multiple times mixed with silica beads. The ceramic shell was fired and the wax melted out, leaving a mold for the bronze which was then poured. After hours of metal grinding and polishing I sprayed a patina which is like a chemical reaction giving the bronze the oxidized look.
The idea behind the sculpture began as a drill-face which eventually turned into a gun. Not a deep concept behind it but it looks cool and I'm happy with the result. Just need to mount it onto some wood.
