done for a class assignment, a ceramic mixed media project using an object from life and altering its meaning. i had a hornless goat skull and the top of a baby deer skull. i stacked them and the rest is from imagination.
the slug eyes were added after the clay was fired. i left holes in the skull sockets to put wire through for an armature. all the wire is attached inside with metal epoxy. the eyes are also constructed with epoxy and finished with a layer of polymer clay cured with a heat gun. the most difficult part was curing the clay without melting the plastic eyeballs. the curing temp was really close to the melting temp. as i went along with the sculpture the nasal cavity reminded me of a coffin, so i put a little astral corpse in there and filled the area with dyed polyester casting resin, which smelled awful.
The painting process was more of an experiment. i had a limited palette in acrylic and no idea for what i wanted. many layers were glazed multiple times and/or completely painted over.
As for subject matter, there isn't much of a narrative behind it. it simply is what it is.
